Sealing and Surface Importance for the Leakage Effect at HEPA Filters
HEPA filter housing sealing and surface compatibility are critical for ensuring a tight seal between the filter and the housing, preventing any unfiltered air from bypassing the system. The effectiveness of these gaskets relies heavily on the compatibility and quality of both the gasket material and the housing’s gasket pressing surface.
Gasket Materials:
EPDM/Silicone Gasket – Test Groove
- Silicone: Known for high temperature resistance, flexibility, and low compression set, making it suitable for environments with extreme temperature variations.
- Neoprene (EPDM): Offers excellent resistance to ozone, weathering, and aging, providing good mechanical strength and flexibility.
PU Foam – Flat Surface
- Polyurethane Foam: Valued for its resilience, used in applications requiring superior sealing under low compression.
Gel Type Gasket – Knife Edge
- Gel Seals and Knife-Edge Profiles: In critical applications, gel seals combined with knife-edge profiles are used. The knife-edge penetrates the gel, creating an airtight seal. This combination is effective in maintaining ultra-clean environments, such as in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Installation and Maintenance:
- Ensuring the gasket pressing surface is clean, smooth, and flat is vital for uniform pressure distribution and effective sealing.
- Regular inspection and maintenance of both the gasket and the pressing surface are crucial to prevent degradation and maintain seal integrity.
Testing for Correct Installation:
- DOP (Emery) Test: This method helps determine if there is any leakage in the system.
- Filter Sealing Test: This method can only be done to Test Groove F Profile type, ensuring the filter is properly sealed.
